Far North Lockdown Tour - Part 2
Leaving Auckland we made it to Gulf harbour Marina, Warkworth Golf Club, Marsden Cove Freedom camp, and on to Whangarei over a period of 5 nights.
We stayed for 2 nights at Lewis and Cindy's, Kauri, then back out to the Tutukaka Coast and Matapouri.
A big day followed to Houhora Motor Camp on the 9 August where we stayed for 2 nights. Rarawa Doc Camp followed where there was only 1 other camper van. 13 August we travelled back to the Kaitaia RSA.
14 August we stayed one night at the Ahipara Holiday park, then the Golf Club for one night. Swapping between Kaitaia and Ahipara we eventually ended up back at Ahipara Holiday Park 18 August, then came
Lockdown.
Ahipara Motorcamp With little information, we were told we had to stay where we were and travel only to the supermarket or Pharmacy while a Covid pandemic raged in the country. Limited exercise was allowed. No idea of time to be in lockdown given.
Apart from the cost, We could not have chosen a better spot. Close to Ninety Mile Beach and surrounding roads provided Freedom for walking and cycling. Cousins down the road.
The Camp Ground facilities were the best we had experienced in the Far North. And there was very few other people there.
Days were spent avoiding the wind, enjoying the s and catching up with Neville and Dion Masters - farmers next door, Also lunches with Shery and Bob Nelley (cousins). Bike riding in the area including the Gumfields, and walking on Ninety Mile Beach with all its changing moo and marvellous sunsets. The occasional trip in to Kaitaia to replenish supplies. This was not very frequent as we had most of wat we needed.
Post Lockdown
It was off for a night in Kaitaia, then the Rangiputa Peninsula - freedom camping at Ramp Rd and Rangiputa Beach then Cooper Beach where we caught up with Danny and Yvonne Simms. HiHi Beach Motor Camp was as delightful as ever for one night before we stopped at Totara North. This was also pleasant freedom camping at the wharf. We met Kevin Clouston at Whangaroa. A circle then ensued between Taupo bay, Waipapa and back to Totara North. True coddywombling. Taupo Bay was delightful - at the end of a beachfront cul de sac with nesting terns. Tauranga Bay was the end of the Far North sojourn before returning to Opua, Jon Lee and riding the trail to Kawakawa - closed for repair part of the way.
26 Sept to 4 October saw us back on the Tutukaka Coast before catching up with Lewis and Cindy again at Kauri
